International Builders Show (IBS)
[endif]--I was fortunate enough to attend the International Builders Show (IBS) in Orlando this year and wanted to focus on one aspect of the vast (and positively overwhelming) learning opportunities at the IBS. ![endif]--
This was the first year I made time to tour the concept home project built by Meritage Homes called, Renewable Living Home. This home intends to offer homeowners a sustainable lifestyle for the evolving multi-generational family.
Here are my top three takeaways from visiting this project:
New technologies were embedded throughout the entire home, but I was impressed with the Greyter & Hercuwall systems
HercuWall – a prefabricated wall that advertises easy assembly, R-30 panels, built without lumber. Seems to solve challenges related to compartmentalization in homes (and potentially, multifamily buildings). I can imagine challenges related to running electrical/plumbing with contractors unfamiliar with this wall system.
Greyter – graywater system that filters and recycles water from showers to flush the toilet which accounts for 30% of water used in the household.
2. The home achieved Zero Energy Ready Home status, an impressive HERS of 16 and installed PV system
3. Aprilaire Wi-Fi thermostat with IAQ control. This technology allows homeowners to manage and adjust the home’s HVAC, humidifier, dehumidifier, air purifier, and ventilator settings from one connected device. This system even allows you to manage the settings with voice commands with Amazon Alexa!
