Union Eagle Senior Apartments Win New Jersey Smart Growth Award
April 13, 2018
Congratulations to Union Eagle Senior Apartments on their 2018 New Jersey Future Smart Growth Award!
Since 2002, NJ Future has honored smart planning and development in New Jersey through the Smart Growth Awards. The projects and developments that win represent some of the best examples of sustainable growth and development in the state.
Union Eagle is located in Bordentown, NJ and is an adaptive reuse of an abandoned industrial building into affordable senior and veterans' housing.

The brick three‐story warehouse on Spring Street had once housed a clothing factory in the city of Bordentown, known for its charm and small‐town ambiance. The factory was in operation for nearly a century before it was abandoned in 1980. The new apartments are providing much-needed affordable senior housing in an area of the city targeted for redevelopment.
MaGrann Associates was the Green Consultant for the project which was developed by Mission First Housing Group and City of Bordentown, and funded by the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency.
The sustainable design features of this project satisfy the standards of Energy Star v3 Homes and USGBC LEED© for Homes programs and is LEED Platinum certified. This design employs continuous insulation through its entire envelope without any thermal bridging, high performance windows and doors, and state of the art appliances and equipment that are both high performing and energy efficient. The project was developed using low volatile organic compound (VOC) materials for improved indoor air quality, and a balanced heat and moisture recovery ventilation for maximum cost savings to residents.
